Before 24-hour cable news and the Internet, people relied on community newspapers to tell them what was going on. The Windham County Transcript was one of those papers. Along with its predecessor, The Windham County Telegraph (published from 1848 to 1859), the Transcript (published weekly from 1860 to 1977) was first printed in Danielson, and many issues are now part of the collection of the Killingly Historical & Genealogical Society. Marilyn Labbe of KHGS will join us to share her journey back in time through extensive study of old issues of the Transcript, including how this experience inspired her 2009 book Dear Transcript: Letters From Windham County Soldiers During The Civil War, 1861-1865.
Our meetings are free and open to the public. You do not have to be a member to attend. Bring a friend and stay for refreshments. |
