Old Home Day/Green School Open House

A dedicated group of volunteers is busy wrapping up plans for the Canterbury Historical Society's September 20th Old Home Day on the Canterbury Green. As always, this annual event features free admission and will include (among other things) live music; open house of the restored one-room Green District School; reenactors; farm animals; farm products; food; children's activities; antiques displays; crafters and artisans; local civic, fraternal, cultural organizations, and more.

previous Old Home Day

Hamburgers, hot dogs, soda, coffee, ice cream, and other refreshments will be for sale by local groups.

The headliner live entertainment this year is the traditional country music of the Bristol Boys, with sets at about 11:45 AM and again about 2:00 and 3:00 in the afternoon. We're very pleased to have Canterbury's 1st Selectman, Brian Sear, performing his own distinctive and highly personal style of music, at about 1:00. Also appearing at approximately 11:00 AM and again at around 1:30 PM will be old timey musician Everett St. Louis of Canterbury. And especially for the children, we are pleased to welcome Shriners' clowns. (All performance times are approximate, but stay awhile and meet great people while awaiting your favorite performers.)
.

Youngsters will not be left out of activities either! Arline Maynard, an area teacher, will run a series of children’s games and activities throughout the day, which were a great hit last year.

We gratefully acknowledge the assistance of the Canterbury Volunteer Fire Department, who will help to keep everyone safe during Old Home Day, as they have every year.
