In 2005, the society had the good fortune to recruit Daniel Simmons, a PhD student in History at the University of Connecticut, to catalog its collection. Daniel had not only studied archival processes and techniques as part of his advanced curriculum, but also had previous hands-on experience cataloging other collections to modern museum standards. He has applied that expertise, as well as workmanlike dedication, to the society's benefit.
Presently, Daniel estimates he has catalogued about 75% of the collection. The society has purchased archival storage materials and shelving specified by Daniel to help ensure that the collection will be safe and stable in the future.
Daniel is creating digital records as well as paper ones. Our long-term goal is to make information about the collection eventually available—and searchable—online.
